Passengers Safe After Plane Hits Deer Before Take Off at CLT Airport

Federal Aviation Administration officials tell Channel 9 that a plane struck a deer while on departure at Charlotte Douglas International Airport just before noon on Wednesday.

A plane was evacuated after hitting a deer at an America airport.

Officials said they were spraying down the runway after fuel began to leak from the plane.

Chopper 9 Skyzoom, being streamed above, could be seen after it landed safely with emergency crews surrounding it.

The plane, which was headed to Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport in MS, began leaking fuel shortly after taking to the air. The runway was closed for a while so that crews could clean up from the incident. "However, the airport property includes thousands of fenced acres and includes vast areas of undeveloped land", the spokesperson said. The airplane was towed away around 2 p.m.

No injuries were reported.
