More Kmart stores in Pittsburgh region closing

A list published by the Business Insider website said Kmart stores in Calhoun and Fort Oglethorpe will also be closing. At that time, the chain said it would close 50 auto centers and 92 underperforming pharmacy operations in certain Kmart stores. Sears and K-Mart released a list of store closings internally yesterday according to Business Insider.

Eligible Kmart employees will receive severance pay and be able to apply to work at other store locations. The Kmart at the intersection of Reeves Street and Ross Clark Circle is on the list and could close by September. Last month, Sears Holdings reported its first quarterly profit in almost two years.

A store will also close in Sparks.

On completion of the latest store closures, the company's store count will come down to 1,200 from 2,073 stores five years ago. On January 4, Sears Holdings announced the closure of dozens of additional Kmart and Sears locations. The Glen Allen and Chesterfield locations will remain open, he said. MI closings this year affected 11 Kmarts and one Sears store. With this round of stores being liquidated, the total number of Sears owned stores will drop to more than 800 less than they had in 2012. Three of those Kmart locations are in western Pennsylvania.
