NBA Draft: Los Angeles Lakers select Lonzo Ball second overall

With the no. 2 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, the Los Angeles Lakers finally selected Lonzo Ball from the University of California at Los Angeles.

Even prior to the draft lottery, the Lakers had locked in on four players in Markelle Fultz, Ball, Josh Jackson and De'Aaron Fox. They also hold the 28th pick.

So when do the 76ers play the Lakers? If we've learned nothing else about LaVar Ball over the last several months, it's that he doesn't seem to worry about what's diplomatic and realistic. Ball can be the star that fans have been starving for, that makes the team better and returns the Lakers to past glory. With team president Magic Johnson and general manager Rob Pelinka making the decision to trade D'Angelo Russell to Brooklyn, with center Brook Lopez moving to LA, there was a clear need for the Lakers to address.

Surely, Ball enters the beginning of his National Basketball Association career with his own question marks.

Can Ball overcome any defensive issues well enough to elevate the Lakers' execution on that end after they struggled to do so in recent seasons?

At UCLA, Ball averaged 14.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 7.6 assists per game in 35.1 minutes per game.

The Lakers saw Johnson deliver on all of his promise when they drafted him No. 1 almost 38 years ago.
