People are employed, the economy is surging, gas prices are actually down. The auto club notes the Great Lakes region is finally experiencing some price stability, and Michigan's price drop over the past week and the last month is the second-largest in the nation.
Meanwhile, the average price nationally stayed flat at $2.25 a gallon, GasBuddy reported.
For the first time ever, gas prices are expected to be lower on the Fourth than on New Year's Day.
So far this spring, regional prices are about what they were in February. But there are reasons prices might not go much lower, however.
Rising demand doesn't always lead to higher prices.
Midland Odessa- $2.10/g, down 4.5 cents per gallon from last week's $2.15/g.
McTeague says the cost of crude has slowly been creeping back up which could mean higher prices at the pump at the end of the week.
"While it has been over a month since the national average last saw a weekly rise, it is looking more likely we will soon face just that", he said. "Oil prices have rebounded".
Austin- $2.02/g, down 2.6 cents per gallon from last week's $2.05/g.
The cheapest gas on average is in South Carolina, Oklahoma and Indiana.
Just an hour's drive west, Ohio's average gasoline price is $2.09 - an 18 percent discount off Pittsburgh-area prices.
