John Oliver Cast as Zazu

Oliver joins a cast that includes Donald Glover (Spider-Man: Homecoming) as Simba, Billy Eichner (Billy on the Street) as Timon and Seth Rogen (Sausage Party).

The Wrap confirmed that the "Last Week Tonight" host will bring to life the high-strung hornbill, who serves as Mufasa's loyal chief steward. He is a political advisor to Simba and Mustafa.

Oliver's other animated credits include two Smurfs movies and the upcoming Amusement Park. Disney fans may also recognize Oliver's voice as that of Wax Sherlock Holmes from the Gravity Falls episode "Headhunters".

What do you think of John Oliver as Zazu? Jon Favreau, who previously directed the hugely successful The Jungle Book remake, is helming.

Zazu is known for his sarcastic quips and uptight personality, so Oliver's casting seems like a flawless choice. Nala is yet to be cast, with rumours circling recently that Beyonce was hot property for the role, however scheduling conflicts are apparently blamed for her not taking the job. We've yet to hear if anything has come out of that yet.

The studios said: "We can officially confirm that The Walt Disney Studios and director Jon Favreau are putting a new reimagining of The Lion King on the fast track to production".
