Gardendale police released a photo of a potential suspect in a Facebook post and told residents to stay inside Wednesday morning while they looked for a man described as an active shooter.
At 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, police were still searching for 52-year-old Kenneth Dion Lever. Police say that anyone who may encounter Lever should not approach him.
The search for Lever initially focused in woods near the Peachtree Crossings mobile home community, where the shootings occurred, but Walker later said police believed he had left the area.
Lever has been free on bond awaiting a court date.
In December a Jefferson County judge issued a protection from abuse order against Lever.
The shooting took place at a mobile home park near the city of Birmingham earlier Wednesday.
Anyone with knowledge of the crime or information on Lever's whereabouts is encouraged to call 911 or contact the Gardendale Police Department at 631-8787.
Officials believe he is now traveling in a vehicle he had in waiting, possibly a 1986 black Chevrolet Camaro or a white Honda Accord Florida with Florida tag number Y92FV. According to the department, a protection from abuse order was issued against Lever in Jefferson County just previous year.
According to that PFA request and other public records, Lever has charges pending in Pennsylvania for sexual abuse with a minor.
